A small loan is usually a credit between 100 and 1000 euros. Ordinary banks only have loans from 2500 euros. However, you can get a small loan from a financier of mini loans. The reason for this is that these banks have a different revenue model. For example, the financiers of mini loans charge a high closing commission of 20-25% of the loan. Banks that fall under Dutch law are not allowed to do this. However, the financiers of the mini-loans are based abroad and can therefore calculate the high closing commission.
Negative BKR listing
All loans of at least 500 euros are tested with the BKR (Credit Registration Office). The BKR is a company based in Tiel. In the large database of the BKR all consumer loans from the Netherlands are registered. People who do not pay for more than three consecutive months get a listing with their loan. This is called a negative rating or negative BKR. This way, lenders can see who has not (or has not) paid on time. If the debt has been paid, the negative BKR listing will remain visible in the BKR database for 5 years. So try to avoid getting a negative BKR quotation since you can pursue this for a long time.
Small loan without high costs
You can take out a small loan from € 2,500 with online credit providers. The interest rate is a lot lower than a mini loan. In addition, the banks must adhere to the rules of Dutch law and they may not charge high service costs or deposit fees.
Stand red at the bank
If you have not been able to get a loan, then another option is to be in the payment account. You are eligible if you receive a minimum of 500 euros in income (salary / benefit) on your payment account. If a minimum of 1000 euros is credited to each month, you can be 1000 euros in the red. A big difference with a loan is that you have to be positive once every three months. You may therefore not borrow for more than three consecutive months. If you stay red for more than three months, the service will be withdrawn. You can then no longer use red on the bank account. Because it is a credit, every application is checked by the bank at the BKR. If you have had a negative BKR listing in the past 5 years, there is a good chance that your application to be red is not approved.
